Bonda Tribe of Orissa, India

The gorgeous traditional tribal attire of the women of the Bonda tribe in Orissa (or Orisha) consists of a multitude of colorful glass bead strands called “mali” covering their bare torsos and head, and a ring of cloth at their waist called “ringa”. Aluminum rings sometimes cover their necks and wrists. These ornaments are thought to protect them from injury as they hunt and forage for food, and also give them an appearance of “primitive deities”.
